US natural gas futures fell sharply as the weather forecast for the first half of January warmed up. Eli Rubin of EBW Analytics said in a report: “The weather for January 2026 will show a double sky pattern: the start is expected to be very mild, and it will cool dramatically from the middle to the end of the month. “The US Energy Information Administration's inventory report last week is expected to show that inventories were reduced by 46 billion cubic feet, less than usual, thus returning inventory levels to surplus levels over the five-year average. Rubin added that this week's bearish changes in the outlook for heating demand “could keep stocks slightly above normal levels for five years for most of January”. The price of natural gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange fell 4.5% to $3.793 per million British thermal units.
