Insiders who bought Breakthrough Minerals Limited (ASX:BTM) stock in the last 12 months were richly rewarded last week. The company's market value increased by AU$1.0m as a result of the stock's 10.0% gain over the same period. In other words, the original AU$85.0k purchase is now worth AU$197.2k.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Breakthrough Minerals Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Non-Executive Chairman Graeme Robertson bought AU$75k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.071 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (AU$0.17), we still think insider buying is a positive. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

While Breakthrough Minerals insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. Does Breakthrough Minerals Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Breakthrough Minerals insiders own about AU$2.6m worth of shares. That equates to 23% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
