Ukrainian President's office adviser Podolyak said in an interview broadcast on December 25 that Ukraine cannot hold elections in wartime. He said that Ukraine currently has a budget deficit, and funds need to be prioritized for military and social security. He stressed that Ukraine can prepare for elections only if a cease-fire is achieved and the security situation is stable; otherwise, there is no way to talk about anything. The Ukrainian presidential election was supposed to be held in March 2024. The US side has called on Ukraine to hold a presidential election as soon as possible, but Ukrainian law prohibits holding elections in a wartime state of the country. Ukrainian President Zelensky said earlier that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has not made progress on amending the election law, nor has it reached a consensus on online voting for the presidential election.
