06:42 AM EST, 12/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The UK Supreme Court ruled in favor of major banks, allowing their appeal to block collective proceedings over alleged foreign exchange market manipulation between 2007 and 2013. In a court ruling published Thursday, the top court reinstated a Competition Appeal Tribunal decision rejecting an application for an opt-out collective proceedings order. The lawsuit was led by Phillip Evans, a former inquiry chairman at the UK Competition Markets Authority, on behalf of asset managers, pension funds, and other financial institutions affected by alleged anticompetitive behavior. The banks involved include UBS Group (UBSG.SW), NatWest Group (NWG.L), Barclays (BARC.L), JPMorgan, Citigroup, and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group.
