The total general account amount reached 18.3 trillion yen, an increase of 31% over the 2024 supplementary budget. Defense related expenses of 1.1 trillion yen were added to the supplementary budget; together with the initial budget of 9.9 trillion yen, the total defense spending for fiscal year 2025 reached about 11 trillion yen, accounting for 2% of GDP. Due to a huge shortage of financial resources, the Japanese government will issue an additional 11.69 trillion yen treasury bonds.
