The China International Nuclear Fusion Energy Program Implementation Center reported today that on December 3-5, the annual meeting of the International Tokamak Physical Activity Coordination Committee was held at the headquarters of the International Thermonuclear Fusion Experimental Reactor Organization. As the ITER program enters a critical stage of assembly, the scope of ITPA research expanded from physical research to physical and engineering research. The number of ITPA task groups was increased from seven to nine, and two new topic groups related to tokamak engineering and operation were added. The conference comprehensively reviewed the activities and results achieved by ITPA in 2025, such as theoretical research, joint experiments, conference discussions, etc., and discussed and proposed cooperative research plans to be carried out next year. The meeting decided that the next chairman of the ITPA Coordinating Committee will be Chinese expert Duan Xuru, the chief scientist of CNNC, for a term of office from 2026 to 2028.
