Indonesia's chief negotiator Airlangga said on Friday that Indonesia is expected to complete tariff negotiations with the US before the end of this year, adding that a delegation will soon fly to Washington DC to continue negotiations. The statement comes after Airlangga and US Trade Representative Jamison Greer spoke on the phone on Thursday about tariffs. “We have agreed to complete the agreement reached in the July 22 Leaders' Declaration,” Airlangga said at an economic forum. A US official, who asked not to be named, said the trade agreement between the two countries is at risk of breaking down due to Jakarta's backlash on several previous promises. However, Jakarta said that talks with Washington are still ongoing and that their “dynamics” are normal, adding that uniform wording is needed to complete the agreement. After Jakarta agreed to remove tariffs on more than 99% of US goods and remove all non-tariff barriers faced by US companies, US tariffs on Indonesian products were reduced from 32% to 19%.
