The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Judicial Authority announced on the 10th that in order to provide better support to those affected by the Hongfu Court fire in Tai Po, it will adopt a series of facilitation measures to prioritize and promptly handle all proposed legal procedures related to the accident. These measures include the establishment of a dedicated working group headed by the Chief Justice of the High Court of the HKSAR. The members include relevant court leaders and special judges to ensure that courts at all levels handle the legal proceedings relating to the accident promptly and on a priority basis without compromising judicial impartiality; a dedicated team composed of support personnel to handle estate matters relating to accident victims; exempting the filing fees for estate matters relating to accident victims; and prioritizing and expediting matters relating to the adjudication of the cause of death, including issuing a “certificate of fact of death”.
