Analysts at Nomura Research said that the Bank of India's easing cycle is not over yet, but after cutting interest rates by a total of 125 basis points, the bank has the flexibility to slow down the pace of interest rate cuts from now on. These analysts took note of Governor Sanjay Malhotra's comments, saying that the Bank of India will be “mainly driven by growth-inflation dynamics” and that “the space for interest rate cuts will be determined by data.” He also said that future interest rate cuts will first depend on whether there is space, and secondly on whether it is necessary. These analysts expect that the Bank of India will strengthen policy transmission through more measures aimed at injecting liquidity. They said, “In our baseline scenario, we expect policy interest rates to remain stable at the next Monetary Policy Committee meeting in February, and we expect to cut interest rates by 25 basis points at the next Monetary Policy Committee meeting in April to bring the final repurchase rate to 5.00%.”
