After two National Guard soldiers were shot in Washington DC last week, the US government is expected to expand the scope of entry bans to about 30 countries to use more aggressive measures to curb immigrants. A US Department of Homeland Security official revealed that the list of additional countries is expected to be announced soon. The United States has now completely banned visitors from 12 countries from entering the country and imposed partial restrictions on 7 other countries. Following the shooting that left the National Guard dead, President Donald Trump threatened to take a series of measures to restrict immigrants from entering the US. Federal authorities have confirmed the suspect as Rahmanulah Rakanwar, a 29-year-old Afghan citizen. This person worked for the US military and the Central Intelligence Agency in Afghanistan before arriving in the US in 2021. Trump also tried to ban travelers from specific countries from entering the country during his first term. This move went through many revisions and lengthy lawsuits, and was eventually ruled by the US Supreme Court that “falls entirely within the purview of the President.” Earlier this year, he imposed another entry ban.
