The Zhitong Finance App learned that driven by the demand for high energy density or high reliability applications such as electric vehicles, fixed energy storage, consumer electronics, humanoid robots, eVTOL/UAM, and industrial applications, TrendForce Consulting expects the global solid state battery (including semi-solid state) market demand to exceed 206 GWh in 2030 and expand to more than 740 GWh in 2035, which marks the entry of solid state batteries into large-scale application stage.

The development of solid-state batteries is moving from laboratories to industrialization. According to the latest research by TrendForce Jibang Consulting, nearly 100 companies around the world have planned solid-state battery production capacity, which in total has reached hundreds of GWh. Among them, part of the production capacity, including semi-solid state batteries, has taken the lead in mass production, and has now been expanded to the GWh level. All-solid-state batteries, on the other hand, have entered the verification and process optimization stage of 100 MWh small-scale trial production. Small-batch applications have been achieved in non-automotive applications, such as industrial robots, medical equipment, semiconductor devices, etc. The automotive sector is expected to actually use all-solid-state batteries around 2027.

TrendForce Jibang Consulting said that the manufacturing process for semi-solid batteries and liquid lithium batteries is highly similar, and they have been commercialized on a small scale. The market already has many semi-solid battery models such as Dongfeng Fengshen E70, NIO ET7, SAIC Zhiji L6, Cyrus SERES5, Rantu Chase Light, and SAIC MG MG4. In the future, as key indicators such as usage costs, charging/discharging efficiency and cycle life improve, the semi-solid battery loading volume is expected to rise slowly by 1% in 2027., the loading scale will reach more than 100,000 vehicles . Leading car manufacturers such as Benz (Mercedes-Benz), BMW (BMW), Stellantis (Strantis), Chery, and Hyundai (Hyundai) have also successively carried out semi-solid state and all-solid-state battery loading tests.

In the field of energy storage, thanks to the promotion and policy support of the semi-solid state battery energy storage demonstration program in the Chinese market, LFP semi-solid state energy storage batteries have now become the most popular application of solid-state batteries, accounting for more than half. It is expected that this trend will continue until 2026. Consumer electronics, humanoid robots, and eVTOL/UAM (electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles/urban air traffic) are seen as emerging applications of solid-state batteries, and these markets are also accelerating the introduction of battery technology with high energy density and high safety.
