According to reports, the European Union has proposed restrictions on three companies providing fake flags to sanctioned tankers. Documents show that these entities provided false Aruba, Curacao, and St. Martin flags to at least eight sanctioned ships. None of these three regions appears in the so-called Official Flag Register of Paris, which means they actually do not provide related services. The Netherlands issued a notice to the International Maritime Organization in May warning of companies providing “false certificates” in the name of St. Martin. These proposed measures are part of the EU's latest round of sanctions and are currently being negotiated by member states.
