Recently, the National Bureau of Statistics released the “Statistical Report on People's Livelihood Since the 14th Five-Year Plan”. The “Report” shows that the distribution of the population is concentrated in towns and eastern regions. At the end of 2024, China's urban population was 943.5 million, and the urbanization rate was 67.00%, an increase of 3.11 percentage points over the end of 2020. The urbanization rate continued to increase. The resident population of the eastern region is 567.02 million, accounting for 40.32% of the country's population, an increase of 0.30 percentage points over 2020. This is also the first time that the urbanization rate of China's resident population has exceeded two-thirds. This is equivalent to 2 out of every 3 people currently living in a town. Overall, in the future, there is still plenty of room for improvement in China's urbanization rate. Some regions with large rural populations are currently the focus of urbanization potential.
