On September 29, construction of a preliminary project to build a new Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway began. The new Shanghai-Hangzhou High Speed Rail Link connects the currently under construction Shanghai East Railway Station to the already opened Hangzhou West Railway Station. The early construction projects started this time are the Situan Station renovation and expansion project in Shanghai and the new Jiatong Grand Bridge project in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. The fourth group station renovation and expansion project will add a high-speed rail terminal; the new Jiatong Grand Bridge is about 12 kilometers long and continuously crosses the Shanghai-Kunming High Speed Rail, multiple highways, and water systems, and is a key project for the entire line. The new Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway is an important part of the coastal corridor of China's “eight vertical and eight horizontal” high-speed rail network. It connects the Shanghai high-speed rail hub in the east and the Hangzhou high-speed rail hub in the west. The position of the regional road network is very important. After completion, the project will form another high-speed rail channel connecting Shanghai and Hangzhou with the existing Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway. It will further enhance the level of high-speed rail connectivity in the Yangtze River Delta region and greatly facilitate people's travel along the route. It is of great significance in giving full play to the radiation-driven role of regional core cities and accelerating the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.
