The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to the “Chinese Enterprise GenAI (Generative AI) Adoption Pattern, 2025H1” recently released by Omdia, 74.6% of China's Fortune 500 companies are deploying or already using GenAI technology.
This high adoption rate is mainly driven by two major factors: full-stack solutions provided by GenAI cloud giants and the rise of open source basic models and tools. In the Chinese market, Alibaba Cloud and DeepSeek are leading GenAI vendors, serving 40% and 38% of the top 500 companies respectively, followed by HUAWEI CLOUD, Baidu AI Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Volcano Engine, and AWS. Notably, China's top companies tend to adopt a multi-vendor strategy, with each company using products and services from 2.1 GenAI suppliers on average.
The open source model has played an important role in the rise of GenAI in China. Alibaba Cloud, DeepSeek, and Tencent Cloud all use open source as a key strategic advantage. The open source model provides openness, transparency, customization, and flexibility to help Chinese companies rapidly deploy large models.
There are significant differences in the adoption rate of GenAI across different industries. The telecommunications, automotive, and IT industries reached 100% adoption, the financial services industry 90%, the manufacturing industry 80%, and the construction and real estate industry 60%. These differences are mainly influenced by the maturity of digital infrastructure and the regulatory environment. In the automotive industry, all 20 surveyed companies have cooperated with at least 2 GenAI suppliers. Of these, 10 have active partnerships with 5 GenAI suppliers. SAIC Motor Group is the most active, with seven GenAI partners. In the telecommunications industry, China's top three telecom operators are cooperating with at least four GenAI suppliers.
Companies are actively using GenAI in a variety of scenarios, including employee productivity improvement, customer service, sales and marketing, and process optimization. In software development, GenAI has accelerated code generation, testing, review, and error detection, automating the entire software engineering lifecycle. For example, 30% of NIO Auto's software code is generated by GenAI. In terms of customer service, FAW Group used GenAI to increase the resolution rate of customer inquiries from 37% to 84%, and Ctrip saved 10,000 man-hours every day through virtual assistants. In terms of back-office transformation, Taikang Insurance Group used AI agents to accelerate operation data queries by 80%.
By 2025, China's Genai Software's top revenue vertical industries are IT, healthcare, retail, consumer, and professional services, and these industries will continue to grow and maintain their leading position in 2029. In terms of use cases, conversation tools will be the most popular use case for years to come due to the availability of language and text data and the maturity of language processing.
Looking ahead, Omdia advises companies to start from a revenue perspective to ensure that GenAI deployments provide a return on investment. Of course, businesses must prioritize trusted, secure, and robust GenAI solutions, so choose GenAI partners wisely. At the same time, many companies are also beginning to embrace the benefits brought by proxy AI. As Chinese companies continue to explore and adopt GenAI, these strategies will help them stay ahead of the competitive market.
