Bill Poulter, the director of the US Federal Housing Finance Administration and a staunch ally of Trump, urged Attorney General Pam Bundy to investigate Federal Reserve Governor Cook's two mortgage deals. Poulter wrote to Bondi and Justice Department official Ed Martin on August 15, claiming that Cook “falsified bank documents and real estate records to obtain more favorable loan terms, which may constitute mortgage fraud under criminal law.” He said that Cook bought a property and applied for a loan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and promised to use it as his main residence for at least one year, but two weeks later he applied for another mortgage in Georgia, and also stated that he would use it as his main residence. Poulter also cited four criminal law provisions and recommended that Bundy investigate whether there are potential charges. No charges have been brought so far, and it is unclear whether Bundy will launch an investigation.
