New indications of AstraZeneca (AZN.US) Avestrol® approved in China for maintenance treatment of severe eosinophilic asthma in children

The Zhitong Finance App learned that AstraZeneca (AZN.US) announced that its new indications for its first respiratory biologic preparation, Fansuzuo® (English product name: Fasenra ®, generic name: benrelizumab injection), have been officially approved in China for the maintenance treatment of severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA) in children (6 to <12 years).

This approval is based on the positive results of the global multi-center, open-label TATE phase III clinical trial. This is an open-label phase III clinical study conducted in the US and Japan to evaluate the pharmacokinetics (PK), pharmacodynamics (PD), and long-term safety of benrelizumab in SEA children aged 6-11 years.

Since it was first approved, sales of Benrelizumab have maintained steady growth, entering the $1 billion ranking in 2021, and global sales reached US$1,689 billion in 2024, an increase of 8.76% over the previous year. According to the semi-annual report disclosed in '25, sales of the drug reached US$920 million in the first half of the year, an increase of 18% over the previous year.
