On August 5, 2025, Lenovo (00992), the world's leading smart device manufacturer, continued to show strong competitiveness in the Chromebook and tablet markets. According to the latest data from market research firm Canalys, in the first half of 2025, Lenovo ranked first in the global Chromebook market with a market share of 31.3%, while achieving 24.7% year-on-year growth in the tablet market. Dual track performance highlights its leading position in the smart device field.

In the first half of 2025, the global Chromebook market experienced a significant recovery, with shipments reaching 11 million units, up 10.6% year on year. The core driving force was the demand for equipment updates from Japan's GiGA school project — the project drove Japan's Chromebook shipments surged more than 20 times year on year. Canalys expects this peak in demand to continue until mid-2026.

In this context, with an in-depth layout of the education market, Lenovo led the world with 3.5 million units shipped and a year-on-year growth rate of 26.9%. Its market share increased from 27.3% in the first half of 2024 to 31.3%, further widening the gap with second-place HP (23.4%). HP ranked second, but the market share was taken over by Lenovo, and annual shipments fell slightly by 4% year over year. Dell ranked fourth, with shipments of 1.5 million units, down 4.5% year over year.

As a core partner in the Japanese education market, Lenovo continued to strengthen links with education decision makers at events such as the “EDIX Tokyo” education exhibition in April by showcasing equipment and system solutions adapted to education scenarios, and consolidated its leading edge in this round of equipment renewal cycles.

Kieren Jessop, research manager at Canalys, said: “In addition to shipments related to the GIGA project, the prospects for Chromebooks in the wider Asian market are also very positive, and many countries have made them a priority choice for education deployment in 2025.” With an accurate grasp of localization needs and product competitiveness, Lenovo is expected to continue to seize key opportunities in Japan and the wider Asian market.

In the tablet market, global shipments increased 9% year-on-year and 5% month-on-month in the second quarter of 2025. Lenovo ranked fourth with 3.1 million units shipped and 7.9% market share, with a year-on-year growth rate of 24.7%, which is significantly higher than the industry average. Among them, the performance of the Lenovo Legion Tab gaming tablet was particularly impressive, and quarterly shipments doubled, becoming the core driving force for growth.

On the one hand, this achievement was supported by China's consumer subsidy policy and driven by global commercial tenders, and the global tablet market continued to show strong growth momentum in the second quarter. On the other hand, the market is also benefiting from a wave of new product launches, especially in the field of gaming tablets. As consumer interest in gaming scenarios grows, gaming tablets have become a growing segment, especially in Asia. In this field, the Lenovo Legion series became one of the strongest contenders.

From Chromebooks to tablets, Lenovo's continued growth stems from a keen grasp of market trends and the ability to innovate products. In the field of educational equipment, it is deeply involved in global public sector procurement projects to consolidate its share with reliable performance and customized solutions; in the consumer electronics sector, it meets the diverse needs of users through category breakthroughs (such as gaming tablets) and ecological integration.

Looking forward to the future, with the advancement of global education informatization and the acceleration of smart device ecosystem integration, Lenovo is expected to further expand its market influence and bring a better smart device experience to users around the world with its leading edge in dual tracks.
