Global pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca has chosen Virginia for its largest-ever single manufacturing investment. The multi-billion dollar facility is part of AstraZeneca’s $50 billion U.S. expansion plan.

“Advanced manufacturing is at the heart of Virginia’s dynamic economy, so I am thrilled that AstraZeneca, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, plans to make their largest global manufacturing investment here in the Commonwealth,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin.

The Virginia facility will be powered by AI, automation, and data analytics, focusing on treatments for cancer, heart and respiratory diseases, and rare conditions. AstraZeneca also has gene therapy production facilities in Maryland and California, as well as its plants in Indiana and Texas.

“I look forward to partnering with Governor Youngkin and his team to work on our largest single manufacturing investment ever,” said AstraZeneca Chief Executive Officer Pascal Soriot.” It reflects the Commonwealth of Virginia’s desire to create highly skilled jobs in science and technology, and will strengthen the country’s domestic supply chain for medicines.”
