On July 14, local time, cloud computing leader Amazon announced the launch of a preview version of the AI programming tool Kiro. Unlike other AI that gets the hint to “write code under the hood,” Kiro can collaborate with programmers to define requirements, system design, and tasks to be achieved before writing any code. This allows Amazon to directly compete with existing tools such as GitHub's smart model and Google's Gemini CodeAssist. Kiro is free during the preview period, and there are three pricing tiers for subsequent plans. Amazon CEO Andy Jesse said Kiro “has an opportunity to change the way developers build software.”
