An EU spokesperson said that the EU is ready to reach a framework trade agreement with the US and is awaiting a response from the Trump administration. In an interview with NBC News on Thursday, Trump said he plans to “immediately” send a letter to the EU listing the new tariffs the EU will have to pay. However, EU officials and diplomats believe that the EU and the US are close to reaching a principle agreement, and they hope to use this to prevent the US from imposing tariffs unilaterally. The spokesperson said, “On our side, the EU is fully prepared to reach a principle agreement with the US at any time.” At the same time, he added that there are currently no recent developments regarding the agreement schedule. “We are waiting for a signal from the US side that they are also ready.”
