The Zhitong Finance App learned that Intel (INTC.US) has appointed a new engineering leadership team to match the company's transformation plan promoted by CEO Chen Liwu. Intel said on Wednesday that three executives, Srinivasan Iyengar, Jean-Didier Allegrucci, and Shailendra Desai, will join the company for key engineering positions. At the same time, Intel also promoted Greg Ernst, the current head of sales, and appointed him chief revenue officer.

Since taking over as CEO in March of this year, Chen Liwu has been working to restore Intel's talent advantage in the field of engineering, and pointed out that the company needs to create products that better meet customer needs. He also announced plans for layoffs and reforms to streamline management.

One of the biggest challenges Chen Liwu faces is to comprehensively reform Intel's AI chips. Compared to Nvidia (NVDA.US)'s rapid growth in the artificial intelligence computing market, Intel's related product performance is weak, and it is already on the edge of this wave of AI craze. As CEO, Chen Liwu still needs to find more customers for Intel's huge fab network.

It is reported that Greg Ernst is currently responsible for Intel's sales and marketing departments, and will shoulder the heavy responsibility of establishing closer ties with customers in the future. He has been with Intel for over 20 years and has held various sales and product development related positions.

As senior vice president, Srinivasan Iyengar is responsible for the newly established “Customer Engineering Center of Excellence” and will report directly to Chen Liwu. He previously worked for Cadence (CDNS.US), a company focused on chip design software. Chen Liwu himself was CEO of the company for over ten years.

Jean-Didier Allegrucci will be responsible for AI system-on-chip (SoC) engineering and future product development for Intel's artificial intelligence chips. He previously worked for the startup Rain AI. Prior to that, he worked at Apple (AAPL.US) for 17 years and participated in the development of more than 30 chips.

Shailendra Desai joined Intel from Google (GOOGL.US). He became the head of silicon engineering at Google after Google acquired Provino Technologies, the startup he founded in 2021. He will lead the development of AI graphics processors at Intel, a key step for Intel to challenge Nvidia head-on.
