The Zhitong Finance App learned that Bungie (BG.US) is close to getting a ruling from China's antitrust regulators on its $8.2 billion purchase of Viterra (Viterra). It's been almost two years since the deal was first announced, and China's approval is seen as the last major hurdle on Bungie's path to building an agricultural giant that can compete with Cargill (Cargill). The ruling may be out within days.

According to reports, the deal has already received key approvals from the European Union and Canada, while Argentina's anti-monopoly regulations allow the transaction to be completed, and only remedial measures may be needed in the future. Bungie's attempt to expand through the acquisition of rival Vitra has previously been plagued by trade tension between China and the US, and the latest developments coincide with recent trade negotiations in London.

Bungie initially planned to complete the deal in mid-2024 and is now approaching Friday's withdrawal deadline, but the deadline has reportedly been extended.
