According to a report by Vietnam News Agency on the 12th, the 9th session of the 15th National Assembly of Vietnam voted on the same day to pass a resolution on the merger of provincial administrative units, reducing the country's 63 provincial administrative units to 34, including 28 provinces and 6 municipalities directly under the Central Government. The report said that it is expected that each province will simultaneously announce the new provincial administrative area jurisdiction, township-level administrative area jurisdiction, and new party and government leadership bodies on June 30. After merging provincial administrative units, adjusting township-level administrative units, and abolishing county-level administrative units, local government agencies will implement a two-level model, which is expected to save more than 190 trillion VND from 2026 to 2030.
