The Zhitong Finance App learned that recently, research institute evTank and Ivy Economic Research Institute jointly released the “White Paper on the Development of the BBU (Backup Battery Unit) Industry in China (2025)”. In the context of the AI explosion, traditional Internet data centers (IDC) are rapidly evolving into artificial intelligence data centers (AIDC). AIDC's high-performance computing, large-scale storage, and high-speed network requirements place higher demands on backup safety. The efficiency and timely performance of BBU provides security guarantees for AIDC. EVtank expects the demand for BBU to increase further. By 2030, the global BBU market will demand more than 600 million high-rate cylindrical batteries.

According to the “White Paper on the Development of the BBU (Backup Battery Unit) Industry in China (2025)”, the current BBU industry supply chain is roughly “battery companies → equipment companies → server companies”. Among them, battery companies are currently dominated by Japanese and Korean companies, accounting for more than 80% of the market share. Domestic companies such as Azure Lithium, Everweft Lithium, and Xinnengan are delivering samples; equipment companies include integrated power supply service providers and battery integrators. Currently, Taiwanese companies include Delta, Xinsheng Li, AES-KY, Guangbao, etc. One of the main suppliers, Sunwoda, Nandu Power, Haopeng Technology, etc. also has the capacity to produce BBU products; server companies have Nvidia that occupy the vast majority of the market share. Currently, Nvidia GB200 and GB300 have introduced BBU as backup solutions.

Since China's power grid is stable and construction costs are lower than overseas, BBU's demand mainly comes from data center construction and iteration of overseas cloud service providers such as Google, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft.

In terms of BBU batteries, EVtank said that currently it is mainly dominated by Japanese and Korean companies, but since the profit margin of BBU batteries is significantly higher than that of ordinary batteries, it has become an important layout direction for enterprises. A number of Chinese companies have released various omnipolar battery products around 2025, targeting high-ratio fields such as BBU, and it is expected that the domestic replacement path for power tool batteries will be replicated in the future.

The domestic company Blue Lithium first deployed BBU cells, and has begun supplying AES-KY, Shunda, Xinshengli, etc. in small batches. Full pole ear production lines such as Everweft Lithium Energy and Xinnengan have begun to be put into operation, and samples of their products have begun to be delivered to customers. BBU battery products such as Highstar, Sunwoda, and BAK have been developed. As demand for BBU batteries increases, Chinese battery companies are expected to quickly seize market share.
