From June 3 to 4, 2025, China and Laos held discussions on “one place, two inspections” to facilitate customs clearance arrangements for the China-Laos Railway in Jinghong City, Yunnan Province. Hong Liang, director of the Department of Border and Maritime Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ponsavan, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, co-chaired the event. Representatives from foreign affairs, public security, customs, immigration, railway and other departments and border provinces and regions of the two countries participated. The consultations were held in a friendly, honest and pragmatic atmosphere. Guided by the important consensus between the leaders of the two countries, the two sides have had in-depth communication on the implementation of a “one place, two inspections” arrangement for passenger transportation at the Mohan - Laotian Moding railway port in China, and made positive progress. The two sides agreed to speed up the negotiation process, seek an early agreement on the “one place, two inspections” arrangement, further improve the China-Lao railway cross-border passenger experience, promote railway quality and efficiency, and help build a common destiny between China and Laos.
