On May 30, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Mike Hammer, the US Chargé d'affaires in Cuba, and stated that since arriving in Cuba in November 2024, Mike Hammer's unfriendly behavior towards Cuba was not in line with his status as a diplomat, but also showed disrespect for the Cuban people. Director General of Bilateral Affairs of the United States Department of Foreign Affairs of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Garcia, sent an oral note to Mike Hammer expressing opposition to his actions. Garcia said that Mike Hammer's actions have violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the “Agreement on the Resumption of Diplomatic Relations” signed by the governments of Cuba and the US.
