Peter Kazimir, a member of the European Central Bank Management Board, was found guilty of bribery and fined 200,000 euros, becoming the first governor of the Central Bank of Slovakia to be convicted. Although Kazimir's term ends on June 1, he said he will appeal the verdict, has no intention of resigning, and will continue to participate in the ECB's decision-making process. If a higher court upholds his conviction, or if the government led by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Figjo agrees to change candidates, Kazimir may be ousted. Until then, however, he will continue to hold a temporary position.
