The Jingzhou Intermediate People's Court of Hubei Province held a public hearing in the first instance on May 27 to hear the case of Yan Guijun, former party committee secretary and chairman of Everbright Trust, taking bribes, illegally issuing loans, and abusing authority by state-owned company personnel. The Jingzhou Municipal People's Procuratorate alleges that from the second half of 2002 to 2021, defendant Yan Guijun used the convenience of being party committee secretary and governor of the Ningbo branch of Everbright Bank, general manager of the business department of Everbright Bank, deputy party secretary and president of Everbright Financial Holdings Asset Management Co., Ltd., and party committee deputy secretary, party committee secretary, president, and chairman of Guangda Xinglong Trust Co., Ltd., to assist relevant units and individuals in matters such as loan approval, business development, and recruitment and promotion, and illegally accepted property worth more than RMB 21.71 million. From May 2016 to February 2020, during his tenure as Deputy Party Secretary, Party Secretary, President, and Chairman of Everbright Trust, Yan Guijun knew that the relevant company did not meet the loan conditions and violated the law, instructed his subordinates to process and approve in violation of regulations, and prompted relevant trust plans and other projects to pass the review, and issued loans totaling more than 6.39 billion yuan to related companies. From May to July 2020, during his tenure as Party Secretary and Chairman of Everbright Trust, Yan Guijun violated the regulations governing the transfer of state-owned assets and approved the transfer of the proceeds of a company's strategic stock placement in a forward manner to relevant natural persons who are not eligible for strategic investment. The procuratorial authorities requested that Yan Guijun be held criminally responsible for bribery, illegal loan disbursement, and abuse of authority by state-owned company personnel. During the trial, the Public Prosecution Service presented relevant evidence. Defendant Yan Guijun and his defender examined the evidence. Both the prosecution and defense fully expressed their opinions under the auspices of the court. Yan Guijun made a final statement and pleaded guilty and repented in court. At the end of the trial, the court adjourned the trial and decided at a later date.
