On April 7, 2025, Wang Hongzhi, director of the National Energy Administration, met with South Africa's Minister of Electricity and Energy Losienzo Ramohaupa in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on promoting Sino-South cooperation. Wang Hongzhi said that China attaches great importance to energy cooperation with South Africa, supports South Africa's active measures to mitigate electricity shortages, is willing to share technology and experience in power transmission and transformation, smart grids, and renewable energy development with the South, and supports Chinese enterprises to participate in South Africa's renewable energy, power grid construction and upgrading, and nuclear power cooperation to help South Africa enhance its power supply capacity and promote energy transformation. China is ready to strengthen communication with South Africa through multilateral mechanisms and work together to establish an open and inclusive global energy governance system.
