On October 18, with the last sound of artillery fire, Luofengshan Branch Holes No. 3 to No. 4, a difficult water diversion project in central Yunnan constructed by the Second Bureau of China Railway, were successfully completed 38 days ahead of schedule, marking the completion of the 14.571-kilometer Luofengshan Tunnel. The Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project is a landmark project among 172 major water conservancy projects determined by the State Council. It passes through Lijiang, Dali, Chuxiong, Kunming, Yuxi, and Honghe. The total length of the route is 664.326 kilometers. After completion, the average annual water diversion volume reached 3.403 billion cubic meters, which will effectively alleviate the plight of water scarcity in central Yunnan. It benefited 35 counties in 6 states along the route, benefiting a land area of 36,900 square kilometers, and benefiting a population of more than 11 million people.
