The number of women registered to run in Japan's current House of Representatives election reached a record high of 314, surpassing 300 for the first time. The previous record was 229 in the 2009 House of Representatives election. The number of female candidates increased by 128 compared to 186 in the last House of Representatives election. The share of female candidates rose from 17.7% last time to 23.4%, an increase of 5.7 percentage points.
