On October 14, the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Studies of Sun Yat-sen University was officially inaugurated in the Hong Kong Science Park. This is the first comprehensive research institution for mainland universities in Hong Kong. At the opening ceremony, Sun Yat-sen University also signed a series of cooperation agreements with universities in Hong Kong: signed a framework agreement with the City University of Hong Kong to strengthen medical research cooperation and hydrogen energy technology research cooperation; signed a memorandum of understanding with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University; signed a cooperation agreement with the Chinese University of Hong Kong on the joint construction of a joint laboratory for plant synthetic biology; signed an agreement on cooperation in traditional Chinese medicine with the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the University of Hong Kong; and signed an agreement on cooperative scientific research in mathematics. The Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Choi Ruolin, said, “In recent years, many universities in Hong Kong have actively set up branches in the Greater Bay Area and developed in collaboration with mainland universities, which have achieved encouraging results. The establishment of the Hong Kong Research Institute at Sun Yat-sen University will help integrate the innovative resources of Guangdong and Hong Kong and promote higher level and broader cooperation between universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.”
