Conroe Enacts Building Moratorium

The Conroe City Council is blaming water shortages on its 120-day temporary development moratorium in the northern portion of the city. As previously reported, the Council implemented a moratorium on the acceptance, authorization and approvals necessary for development to combat potential water shortages.

Residents will only be affected by irrigation restrictions, but developers will face the full effect. Community Impact reports that the affected areas include the northern portion of Conroe but exclude Panorama Village, the April Sound subdivision and the Montgomery County Municipal Utility Districts (MUD) Nos. 3 and 4.

The City claims about $50 million is needed to fund the water infrastructure needed. Councilmember Howard Wood claims that “overdevelopment and previous decision-making has put Conroe in a tough situation.
