A closely watched index shows that business activity in the Chicago region of the US declined less this month. According to the survey, the PMI index of the Chicago Business Barometer rose from 45.3 in July to 46.1 in August. Both new orders and deliveries rose this month, indicating that demand in the region has stabilized. However, the index showed that the backlog of orders declined, and the number of employed persons fell again in the same month, in line with the overall trend of weakening of the US labor market.
