At the press conference of the State Information Office held this afternoon, a relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Commerce explained that currently, the Chinese tourism industry has formed the world's largest domestic tourism market and has become the largest source and main destination for international tourists. Wang Dongtang, director of the Department of Trade in Services and Trade Services of the Ministry of Commerce, explained that in 2023, China's import and export volume of travel services will rank second in the world. In the first half of this year, China's imports and exports of travel services amounted to 961.7 billion yuan. The scale has now basically recovered to the same period in 2019 before the epidemic. Trade in travel services accounts for 26.7% of China's total trade in services, an increase of 6.1 percentage points over the same period last year, and travel services have once again returned to the largest sector of China's trade in services. Wang Dongtang said, “In the next step, the Ministry of Commerce will work with relevant departments to further study and improve policies and measures to promote the development of trade in travel services, improve supply levels and service quality, and further deepen international tourism exchanges and cooperation. We also welcome people from all countries to travel, do business, and study in China.”
