Opening Your Account


What are the requirements to open an account?


  • Age: Must be at least 18 years old
  • Identification: Must have a social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
  • Residency: Must be a permanent resident of the United States or its territories, or hold one of the accepted visa types if you are not a permanent resident
  • Personal Information: Must provide the information below

- Full name

- Date of birth

- Phone number

- Email address

- U.S. residential address

- Citizenship status


Which VISA types are accepted?

At this time, E1, E2, E3, F1, H1B, TN1, O1 and L1 VISAs are accepted. Please note, these cannot be used as a replacement to identification documents.


Are additional documents needed to open an account?

Additional identification and tax documents may be required depending on your specific circumstances. Identification documents must be valid and cannot be expired or set to expire within one month or less. First and last names entered must match the ID and/or tax document provided.

How do I open a new account?

To open brokerage and retirement accounts, please follow the instructions provided for the Webull mobile app, website, and intuitive desktop application below:


App:
Existing User:

  1. Navigate to Menu ➝ Settings ➝ Account Management ➝ Apply for new accounts
  2. Select which new account you would like to open.
  3. Follow the application prompts.

New User:

  1. Tap Sign up.
  2. Enter your phone number or email address.
  3. Tap to agree to the terms of service.
  4. Enter the verification code sent your phone number or email address.
  5. Create and confirm your login password.
  6. Tap Sign up.
  7. Choose your layout by selecting between our advanced trading platform or Lite trading platform.
  8. Select Open account.
  9. Follow the application prompts.

Lite Mode:

  1. Tap the head and shoulders icon.
  2. Under Account Features, select Account Management.
  3. Tap Apply for New Accounts.

Web:
Existing User:

  1. Navigate to My Account.
  2. Select Explore More Accounts.
  3. Select the new account you would like to open.
  4. Follow the application prompts.

New User:

  1. Click Sign Up.
  2. Enter your phone number and submit the verification code.
  3. Click the box to agree to the terms of service.
  4. Create and confirm your login password.
  5. Choose which account you would like to open.
  6. Select Open account.
  7. Follow the application prompts.

Desktop:

Existing User:

  1. Click your account number (upper right).
  2. Select the new account you would like to open.
  3. Follow the application prompts.

New User:

  1. Click Sign up.
  2. Enter your phone number and submit the verification code.
  3. Create and confirm your login password.
  4. Click Next ➝ Open account.
  5. Enter your email address and enter the verification code.
  6. Follow the application prompts.

How do I change my account type?

The option to change account types is currently unavailable. However, if you have a cash account, you can open a margin account, and vice versa. Follow the instructions in the section above to open a new account type.


Can I fund my Individual cash or margin account before the account has been opened?

You cannot fund an account before it is opened; however, you can schedule an ACH deposit in advance. The deposit will initiate automatically once your account is approved.


Can I submit a deposit via debit card while my account opening is pending?

No. Pre-funding deposits can only be scheduled via ACH. Debit card deposits are available once your account is approved and opened. If your application is rejected, the scheduled ACH deposit will be cancelled and your linked bank information will be deleted.


If I already have a cash or margin account, will my bank information carry over when I open a new account?

Yes. If you have a linked bank account on an existing cash or margin account, that bank information will auto-fill when you submit to open a new cash or margin account, allowing you to schedule your pre-funding deposit using the already linked account.


Can I cancel a scheduled deposit that I set up before my account is opened?

Yes. If you scheduled an ACH deposit while your account opening is pending, you can cancel it at any time before the account is approved. Once cancelled, no deposit will initiate when the account opens. To view or cancel the scheduled deposit, see below:


App:

  1. Select the Open Account button at the bottom of the app.
  2. Under the Application Pending screen, select the View Records button.
  3. Select the scheduled deposit you would like to cancel.

How do I open a joint account?

Joint accounts can be opened from the same page as individual accounts. Follow the instructions above to access the account opening page. Once there, select Joint Account and follow the steps below to complete the application:


App, Web and Desktop:

Primary User:

  1. Choose the type of joint account you'd like to open and select Get Started.
  2. Complete your application by entering your personal, employment, and financial details.
  3. After submitting, you’ll be prompted to enter the secondary user's name, email, phone number, address, and relationship.
  4. Send a secure invite link via email to invite the secondary user.

Secondary User:

  1. Select Complete Application in the email invitation.
  2. Verify your phone number.
  3. Complete your portion of the application by entering your personal, employment, and financial details.
  4. Once submitted, the joint application is sent for review.

It's important to note that:


  • The invite link will fail if it is opened on a device logged into the primary user’s account, if an outdated link is used, or if the invitee’s information has been updated.
  • The invite link expires 7 business days from the date it was sent.
  • The secondary user's contact email and phone number must be different from the primary user's for the invite link to work.
  • Once the phone number is verified, the secondary user can leave the web browser and continue the application process on the mobile app or website.
  • The secondary user must complete the sign-up process, if they haven’t already, in order to finish their portion of the application.

How do I cancel a joint account application or invitation?

To cancel a joint account application or invitation after it has been sent, navigate to the joint account application page on our mobile app or website. At the bottom of the page, select the "Cancel" button to cancel the application, or choose "Reset the Invitation" to send a new invite link.
