Average supplier delivery times quickened slightly in March, according to the latest global manufacturing PMI surveys. The improvement in supply chains is good news for inflation, but prices continued to rise at an increased rate for consumer goods. A marked upturn in goods price inflation in the US contrasting with falling prices in the eurozone and China. The Global Manufacturing PMI showed the time taken for factories to receive goods shortened on average in March.

Worldwide Manufacturing Upturn Gains Momentum In March As Recovery Broadens Out. PMI surveys showed manufacturing business conditions improving at an increased rate in March. The Global Manufacturing PMI rose from 50.3 in February to 50.6 in March, its highest since July 2022. New orders rose worldwide for a second month in a row, increasing at the sharpest rate since May 2022. The upturn has broadened out to 17 of the 31 economies covered by the survey.

The Return Of U.S. Manufacturing Growth Lifts Optimism
US ISM manufacturing index surprises everyone by moving into growth territory for the first time since late 2022. Production jumping, new orders rising and inflation pressures increasing. The February reading of 50.3 is the strongest since September 2022. Construction spending was much weaker than expected and construction spending fell 0.3% month-on-month in February.
