The Wendy's Company is primarily engaged in the business of operating, developing and franchising a system of distinctive quick-service restaurants serving food. The Company operates through three segments. Wendys U.S. segment includes the operation and franchising of Wendys restaurants in the United States. Wendys International segment includes the operation and franchising of Wendys restaurants in countries and territories other than the United States. Global Real Estate & Development segment includes real estate activity for owned sites and sites leased from third parties. It has 6,030 restaurants in the United States, out of which 403 are operated by the Company and 5,627 are operated by a total of 212 franchisees. In addition, the Company also has 1,210 restaurants in 32 foreign countries and United States territories, out of which 1,198 are operated by a total of 106 franchisees and 12 are operated by the Company in the United Kingdom.
