This morning, the 9th Hongqiao International Economic Forum Sub-Forum — the “2026 World Trade Report” seminar and Chinese press conference was held in Shanghai. More than 200 representatives from the World Trade Organization Secretariat and foreign affairs, industry, and academia attended. The participants had in-depth exchanges on the World Trade Organization's annual flagship report. The theme of this year's report is “The World Trade System at a Key Point”. The report indicates that if the multilateral trading system is strengthened, global GDP is expected to increase by about 2.9% compared to the benchmark scenario by 2050, that is, an increase of about 3 trillion US dollars, and global exports can increase by 17.9%. At the same time, the report warns that if countries do not act and allow multilateral trade rules to be weakened, global output could drop by up to 10%.
