Why Piper Sandler Thinks You Should Buy Take-Two Stock Before November 19

Take-Two Interactive (TTWO) is staring down the biggest launch in video game history. Grand Theft Auto 6 hits shelves on November 19.

And Wall Street is already warming up for the event. At the top, Piper Sandler just pounded the table with a fresh survey showing massive demand.

Yet TTWO stock has been absolutely hammered in 2026. Shares are down roughly 25% year-to-date (YTD) and sit about 28% below their 52-week high. That gap creates a real question for investors. Is the market handing you a discount on the biggest entertainment launch of the decade, or is the stock already expensive enough that even a monster launch disappoints?

The answer sits somewhere in the middle. The GTA 6 catalyst is real and enormous. But this is not a cheap stock, and the company still burns serious cash building the next cycle.

A Rough Year on Wall Street

TTWO started 2026 around $256 per share, and by late October, it was trading near $190. That is a painful 25% drop year to date and a 15%. The selloff came on the heels of a mix of delayed enthusiasm, conservative guidance, and broader gaming sector fatigue. For instance, management reiterated fiscal 2027 bookings of $8.0 to $8.2 billion in August. Wall Street wanted $8.53 billion. The market hates nothing more than a guidance haircut right before the biggest launch of the decade.

Turning to valuation, TTWO presents a highly expensive profile. Its P/E is 50.35, far above the sector median of 12.24, and Its Price-to-Book is 10.02 versus the sector’s 1.82. Both ratios indicate TTWO trades at a rich premium to peers. The Price-to-Sales of 5.36 is also much higher than the industry’s 1.13, making TTWO appear overvalued on all primary metrics.

Piper Sandler Sees Growth

Piper Sandler analyst James Callahan just reiterated an overweight rating and a $290 price target.

The cited polling information supports the bull thesis. Piper polled about 9,000 teenagers, with around 70% of the current generation of console owners intending to purchase GTA 6. Over half wish it were launched. 90% of users who buy the game will play GTA Online, and 40% will go so far as to make additional in-game purchases.

This corresponds to about a 44% initial payout, far superior to other online platforms. Another 45-plus million units model into the market at launch. The survey also identified a wrinkle. Approximately 21% of all consoles sold are connected to the same home, potentially reducing the portion of the base that is accessible. The overlap is not very much, but the demand signal is strong.

The Quarter Before the Storm

Take-Two is set to report fiscal Q2 on Nov. 9. The quarter covers July, August, and September, meaning that there are no sales figures for the launch of GTA 6 included. The current business is still relevant. Net bookings for fiscal Q1 were at $1.39 billion, which was up 3% year over year and above guidance. Reported revenue increased by 2% to $1.53 billion. 84% of bookings were from recurrent consumers: NBA 2K, GTA Online, Toon Blast, and Match Factory were key.

Net loss fell sharply to $34.1 million from $11.9 million a year ago, primarily because of an impairment relating to a cancelled third-party title worth $43.4 million. Adjusted earnings per share were at $0.35. The check to watch is free cash flow. Management continues to expect to generate over $1 billion of operating cash flow in fiscal 2027 and a net cash flow at the end of fiscal 2027.

CEO Strauss Zelnick didn't mince words on the call. So already, they are seeing record-breaking and remarkable levels of pre-orders, he said. Fiscal Q2 bookings were led by management to $1.62 to $1.67 billion, as compared to $1.96 billion last year during Borderlands 4 and Mafia. The $8.51 billion revenue and $6.94 in EPS are consensus estimates for the full fiscal year.

What the Street is Saying About TTWO Stock

Despite the stock's drop, analysts are more bullish than ever.

The consensus rating among 28 analysts is a solid “Strong Buy." The price target average is $287, which would suggest around a 49% upward move from late October prices.

GTA 6 was one of the largest AAA releases ever, according to Goldman Sachs, which reiterated its Buy rating on October 19th with an expected price of $285.  That being said, Bank of America has an upside-monetization theory that it has pegged at a $368 target, the maximum value in the range. But Wedbush lowered its estimate to $280 while maintaining an outperform rating. Even the bulls have different views on how much baked-in GTA 6 there is.

The Verdict

GTA 6 will be a cultural occasion. The Piper survey validates demand. Every event at TTWO is not free, but the costs are much higher, and the company has to pay a lot more to investors for the next cycle of development.

Take-Two is going to be pressing all of the "GTA VI" capitalization successes, which is a concentration risk, and the stock is trading at high multiples, meaning that those expectations are ingrained in the stock already, without much space for upside if the fallout is a positive one.
