The Zhitong Finance App learned that the China Storage Index, which was jointly surveyed by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing and China Storage Development Co., Ltd., was 49.8% in October 2026, up 0.1 percentage points from September.

Looking at the sub-indices, compared with September, the business activity expectations index increased by 0.9 percentage points; the new orders index and year-end inventory index remained the same as in September; the business volume index and average inventory turnover index declined, with declines of 2.8 and 1.5 percentage points, respectively.

Yang Biao, deputy general manager of China Storage Development Co., Ltd., believes that the storage index rebounded slightly in October in the contraction range, and the overall operation of the industry was stable, but the recovery in demand fell short of expectations. The new orders index remained in the expansion range, and the business volume index fell back to the boom and dry line, showing that although there is some support for warehousing demand, the conversion to actual business volume is still insufficient; the end-of-period inventory index and average inventory turnover index continue to operate in the contraction range, and the enterprise is still in the inventory removal stage. By category, the overall “gold nine silver ten” peak commodity market did not materialize as scheduled, and consumer goods storage demand was also weaker than expected. In the later stages, as economic stabilization policies continue to gain strength and e-commerce promotion activities are launched one after another, warehousing demand is expected to gradually improve, but the operation of the industry is still under some pressure.

The index of new orders was 50.9%, the same as in September. By type, the index of new orders for chemical products, coal, agricultural and sideline products is higher than 50%, and the index of new orders for products such as steel, non-ferrous metals, food, and household appliances is less than 50%.

By type, the business volume index for coal, agricultural and sideline products is higher than 50%, and the business volume index for products such as steel, non-ferrous metals, building materials, food, and daily necessities is less than 50%.

The inventory index at the end of the period was 49%, the same as in September. By type, the year-end inventory index for coal, agricultural and sideline products, pharmaceuticals, etc. is higher than 50%, and the year-end inventory index for non-ferrous metals, mineral products, food, household appliances, and daily necessities is less than 50%.

The average inventory turnover index was 48%, down 1.5 percentage points from September.
