According to a high-level civil coalition working with the government to formulate economic and trade policies, Thailand's automobile production is expected to reach 1.55 million units in 2027 after the Thai cabinet approves an increase in the consumption tax on imported electric vehicles, which is about 7% higher than this year's forecast. On November 3, the Cabinet raised the consumption tax on imported pure electric vehicles from 10% to 35%, and extended-range electric vehicles from 15% to 35%. The new regulations will take effect on January 1, 2027, with the aim of encouraging local manufacturing and improving the local supply chain. The Automobile Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries lowered the 2026 automobile production target to 1.45 million units, compared with the previous target of 1.5 million units. Production increased 0.39% year-on-year in the first nine months of this year to 10,80030 vehicles.
