BWX Technologies stock inched up 1.0% to about US$131.82 after the Q3 2026 earnings release, a calm move for a business that just posted another muscular nuclear quarter. Traders saw a modest bounce. The numbers suggest something bigger.
Q3 revenue reached US$952.97m and basic earnings per share came in at US$1.11, both aligned with a company leaning into long cycle nuclear demand rather than chasing short swings. Over the past three months the share price is still down about 21.7%, which puts more weight on the strengthening profit trend than on today’s muted relief rally.

The bullish pitch says BWX Technologies can steadily turn its contract book and new programs into stronger cash generation without giving up profitability.
"Record backlog of about US$8.4b, supported by a trailing 12 month book to bill ratio of 1.7x and roughly nine quarters of revenue coverage, points to continued conversion of awarded work into higher revenue and earnings for BWX Technologies."
Q3 results line up with that script. Revenue of US$953m and 7% organic growth came alongside 19% Adjusted EBITDA growth and US$151m of free cash flow. Government Operations margins moved higher, and management raised full year free cash flow guidance while reiterating 2030 revenue and EBITDA targets.
The main worry is that heavy reinvestment in Commercial Operations and fuel capacity keeps chipping away at profitability even as sales build.
"BWX Technologies is funding higher than previously guided Commercial Operations margins through additional investment in U.S. and Canadian capacity. The decision to keep 2026 Commercial margins around 13% instead of closer to 14% signals that prolonged reinvestment or cost overruns could limit future net margin expansion and slow earnings growth, even if revenue continues to scale."
Latest numbers cut both ways. Commercial revenue grew 25% and Adj. EBITDA reached US$41m with a 13.2% margin, roughly consistent with that tempered target, not collapsing. Group level, Adj. EBITDA grew faster than sales and full year margin guidance held, yet 2027 free cash flow is only expected to be flat to slightly higher as capex stays near 6% of revenue.
