02:34 AM EST, 11/03/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Schaeffler (SHA0.F) launched another performance improvement program that will affect 3,460 positions in Europe, including 2,660 in Germany, the automotive and industrial supplier said Tuesday. The latest round of layoffs, which is aimed at reducing overcapacity, cutting personnel costs and limiting organizational complexity, follows the conclusion of 1,800 partial retirement agreements in early October. The job cuts will affect 16 locations in the Europe region. The plans include the closure of five sites, four of which are in Germany. The layoffs, which will be in production, research and development, and other functional areas, will be supplemented by a solidarity contribution, expected to include a temporary, voluntary compensation reduction starting with the board of managing directors and extending across all hierarchical levels. The details of the solidarity contribution are yet to be finalized. With a one-time expense of 480 million euros, the company estimates it will generate annual earnings improvement of 300 million euros, starting 2030.
