In the third quarter of 2026, China's coal power generation volume and share declined year-on-year, and new progress was made in the low-carbon energy transition. With the recent accelerated implementation of measures to increase coal production and supply, coal supply has been steadily recovering. At the same time, coal consumption is relatively stable, and the gap between supply and demand has narrowed further. Combined, electricity and coal stocks have maintained a safe and reasonable range, providing a solid foundation for peak winter supply insurance. The volume and share of coal power generation declined year on year. In July, August, and September, the country's coal power generation decreased by 4.0%, 4.6%, and 1.9%, respectively, over the same period last year, and the amount of electricity and coal used decreased accordingly. Following the first time in the first half of this year, the share of domestic coal power generation fell below 50%, and fell further to 49.1% at the end of September. The proportion of new electricity generated by coal power per year in the whole society continued to decline, falling to 4.4% at the end of September. Coal stocks are within a safe and reasonable range. As of October 25, the Bohai Rim port had stored 26.92 million tons of coal, an increase of 2.15 million tons over the previous year. Of these, Qinhuangdao Port had stored 5.95 million tons of coal, an increase of 420,000 tons over the previous year. Coal storage in regulated power plants across the country remains at a high level. It was 210 million tons on October 25, and the average can be used for 35 days, which is comparable to the average for the past three years.
