YIT (HLSE:YIT) Q3 Earnings Revive Margin Repair As Housing Losses Linger

Simply Wall St · 2d ago

YIT Oyj entered its Q3 2026 earnings with the shares down roughly 10% over the past month but still sharply higher over three months. Traders have treated the stock like a short-term roller coaster. The fresh numbers tell a different story. Revenue reached €534m for the quarter and the loss per share narrowed to €0.03.

On the screen, that may look like another construction cyclicals trade. In a longer lens, the key plot twist is margin repair. Adjusted operating profit of €30m and a 5.7% margin signal that the profit squeeze that has dogged YIT is starting to loosen.

YIT data center thesis meets early execution tests

Bulls argue YIT Oyj can turn Finland’s server buildout into a much larger, higher margin contracting engine. The core ambition is clear.

"The main thing that has to go right is that YIT Oyj maintains its roughly 30% share in Finnish data center construction while scaling from more than €200 million of recent data center revenue toward the management ambition for 2029."

Q3 orders give that story firmer footing. Contracting bookings above €900m, including the roughly €300m atNorth project, helped lift Building Construction and Infrastructure order books by more than 20%. Revenue growth in both contracting segments, together with a 5.7% adjusted operating margin, shows the data center heavy mix now contributes to the wider margin repair narrative at YIT.

YIT bear case on Finnish housing stress tested

The bearish view hinges on Finnish housing staying structurally weak and cost heavy for YIT Oyj rather than just cyclical.

"Even with €15m of annualised cost savings already identified and restructuring actions taken in Finland, the scale of revenue decline in Residential Finland and the absence of new self developed project starts mean that fixed costs could remain too high, limiting the impact of savings on future operating profit and net margin."

Q3 confirms this worry is not hypothetical. Residential Finland revenue fell more than 35% and the segment stayed loss making despite group adjusted operating profit of €30m and tighter full year profit guidance of €80 to €90m.

Hunt Quiet Dislocations Now

YIT Oyj just showed how quickly a quarterly story can shift when margins start to move. The real opportunity is finding stocks that could be undervalued before the market reassesses them.

  • Company 1 - 40% below our estimate - builds a single platform that shifts mature human and animal treatments onto lower cost integrated manufacturing.
  • Company 2 - 48% below our estimate - turns a near record construction backlog of mega projects into higher margin contract work for public and private clients.
  • Company 3 - 46% below our estimate - channels rising operating cash flow into developing complex generics where payors want cheaper alternatives to branded treatments.
