DXC Technology (DXC) Stock Shrugs Off Q2 Earnings As Guidance Falls

Simply Wall St · 1d ago

DXC Technology just reported Q2 FY2027 and the stock barely flinched, slipping about 2% to roughly US$15 by the close. On the surface that looks calm. Underneath, this was a guidance story, not a headline beat story.

The company topped its own targets on revenue near US$3.0b and non GAAP earnings per share of US$0.67. Yet management cut full year forecasts and admitted weaker bookings, which affects investor confidence more than any single quarter print. Today’s modest move looks more like a market shrug at a profit squeeze than a clear read on what these numbers really mean.

DXC Bull Case Hinges On Margin, Not Growth

The bullish story hangs on DXC Technology turning AI and cost cuts into fatter profits even if sales stay flat. That ambition is clear on paper.

"The main thing that has to go right is that DXC executes on its plan to move from revenue decline to flat or low single digit growth while lifting adjusted EBIT margins toward 8 to 10% by fiscal 2029 through AI driven productivity gains and spending reductions."

Q2 shows only partial progress. Organic revenue still fell about 4% and full year guidance now points to a 5 to 5.5% decline. Adjusted EBIT margin of 6.2% beat targets and full year guidance of 5.75 to 6.25% keeps the margin ladder intact, yet bookings softness and a 0.8x book to bill ratio work against the hoped for move toward flat growth.

DXC Bearish Case: Bookings Slow, GIS Still Dragging

The harshest critics focus on Global Infrastructure Services and project demand. Their concern is simple. AI wins do not matter if the older businesses keep bleeding.

"Although DXC Technology is rolling out its OASIS AI delivery platform across dozens of customer environments with measured productivity gains, GIS revenue still declined 11% year over year and margins in that segment sit near 2.6%. This suggests that any projected AI driven cost savings may arrive too slowly to prevent further EBIT margin pressure if discretionary infrastructure work remains weak."

Q2 results lean toward that worry. GIS revenue declined about 10% and segment bookings fell 13%, with group book to bill at 0.8. Management cut full year revenue guidance to a 5 to 5.5% organic decline, even as adjusted EBIT margin ticked up to 6.2%. That mix of softer orders, weaker pipeline conversion, and a lower top line outlook while AI projects ramp validates the risk that DXC cost savings and new platforms are not yet offsetting legacy shrinkage.

Hunt For Mispriced Earnings Setups

DXC Technology just reported a quarter where the share price barely moved while the narrative changed. The real opportunity is in stocks that could be undervalued before the market potentially reassesses their earnings power.

  • Company 1 - 48% below our estimate - co-designs complex hardware for regulated industries so customers embed its expertise into multiyear product programs.
  • Company 2 - 38% below our estimate - builds protective films and related services into installation, dealership and online distribution as manufacturers expand production.
  • Company 3 - 20% below our estimate - expands an integrated money platform as customers adopt accounts, cards, investment features and embedded payment partnerships.
