Andritz (WBAG:ANDR) Stock Flat As Record Q3 Earnings Build Backlog

Simply Wall St · 1d ago

Andritz stock closed at €80.6 after Q3 2026 earnings, roughly flat over the past week and slightly weaker over the past month. On the surface that muted move suggests a routine quarter, but the headline tells a different story. Order intake reached about €2.2b with revenue at €2.1b, and the backlog climbed to a record €12.7b.

Short term traders saw little to react to in the quote. Long term holders watched a capital goods group lock in future cash flows and support an earnings growth narrative that spans multiple years.

Evaluating Andritz’s Backlog And Cash Engine

The bullish story leans heavily on Andritz turning a hydropower heavy order book and better cash generation into a higher quality earnings mix over time.

"A key focus for the company is continuing to shift its mix toward higher service shares and improved divisional margins while keeping cash generation strong enough to support elevated M&A and restructuring."

Q3 results line up with that ambition. Record €12.7b backlog is now about half hydropower. Group EBITA margins and Hydropower and Metals profitability moved toward the targeted corridor. Cash flow execution looks disciplined, with €611m operating cash flow and €411m free cash flow year to date and net liquidity at €844m supporting ongoing restructuring and potential deals.

Andritz: Hydro Backlog Risk Still Not Resolved

Bears argue that Andritz’s swelling hydropower book could turn into a source of timing and cost pain rather than earnings stability.

"While hydropower order intake and margins have recently improved, the growing share of long-duration hydro work in a €12.4 to €12.9 billion backlog increases exposure to any future project cost inflation or technical issues, which could absorb contingency buffers and weigh on net margins over several years."

Q3 hydropower EBITA at 8.9% and strong order intake show no margin hit yet. However, this print does not clear the long cycle risk. The backlog is even larger at €12.7b, project durations are unchanged, and Environment & Energy cost overruns prove execution issues are real elsewhere in the group.

Hunt For Quiet Disconnects Now

Andritz just showed how a record backlog can coexist with a muted share price. The real opportunity is spotting companies that could be undervalued before that gap closes.

  • Company 1 - 34% below our estimate - converts a large owned land bank into new residential projects while focusing on construction productivity.
  • Company 2 - 39% below our estimate - commits fresh capital to power, energy transition and data infrastructure using an active ownership model.
  • Company 3 - 26% below our estimate - grows a digital banking platform by lifting revenue per active customer while maintaining lean operating efficiency.
