Macau Statistics and Census Service: E-payment transactions in the restaurant industry and retail sector increased by 5.4% and 12.6%, respectively, in September

The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to data from the Macao Statistics and Census Bureau, the amount of electronic payment transactions (hereinafter referred to as transaction volume) in the restaurant industry and retail industry increased by 5.4% and 12.6% respectively in September 2026. The transaction volume of the two industries increased by 2.2% and 13.3%, respectively, in the first nine months.

Catering industry

In September 2026, the transaction volume of the restaurant industry increased 5.4% year on year to MOP 1.1 billion. Among them, the transaction volume of Western restaurants and Chinese restaurants increased by 11.5% and 5.1% respectively. In the first nine months, the transaction volume of the catering industry increased 2.2% year over year to 10.41 billion yuan.

retail industry

Retail trade volume increased 12.6% year over year to MOP 4.24 billion in September 2026. Among them, watch and jewellery (+47.4%) and cosmetics and hygiene products (+34.8%) increased significantly, while pharmacy transaction volume (-9.7%) decreased. Retail trade volume increased 13.3% year-on-year in the first nine months to MOP 42.96 billion.
